We hope many of you with young children will be able to attend.. Kids ask a lot of questions about God and many parents tell me that they don't know the answers. Some children speak of wanting to be with Jesus and parents worry that they want to die, some parents are anxious when we tell the story of Jesus crucifxion, and there is always that dreaded question on all of our minds "why did God let that happen Mommy?" You surely are not alone as a parent. None of us have all the answers so let's get together and talk about our children and God. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ January 25th, 6:00 pm - The Great St. Paul's Chili Cookoff. You will learn at rehearsals how to play together with other members to sound like one instrument and keep the beat. We have fun! Playing handbells is a musical experience different from playing any other instrument that many people do not ever get to have. Ages 14 and older are eligible to join. Hope to see you all! Adult Choir - If you sing and want to be with a lot of friendly folks, we would love to have you join us on Thursday nights at 7:30 in the downstairs choir room. On Sunday mornings, we gather at 9:45 am in the choir room for a short practice for the 10:15 am service. Contact our Music Director, Dale Deckert at [email protected]. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Spiritual but not Religious Book Discussion Group - Our first year as a group was very successful. Our group met after church on Sunday mornings for about an hour. The group also changes - some months a person reads the book and comes, other months they can't make it. If you don't read the book, it is no problem, most likely you can join in the conversation anyway. Here is the book list for the year if you like to get a head start in the summer. The discernment committee is reading "Radical Welcome" this summer and we hope that as many people as possible will join us and come to the Book Group the first two months. The group will again meet with Rev. Suzannah on the 3rd Sunday each month at 11:45 a.m. beginning October 21st. If you are interested, you can join us at any time. For some of the new topic books, please click HERE for the details. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Safe Church 2012 Policy - Click HERE for details. For training schedule, click HERE. No fee. We get hundreds of small toiletries. We bring 150 bags to Church Street Eats with wash clothes each year. We give another box to Southington Social Services and each year we send another bag/box to an agency we are serving that particular year. Keep them coming as you travel this summer! The basket is outside the Christian Formation Office. J2A Selling Gift Cards - When you have a need for Gift Cards, buy them from our J2A Youth. These cards are at full value and we get a percentage from the retaileer. Stop by the J2A table in the Parish Hall after services. Many stores have tuna fish on sale right now. Please pick up a few cans for J2A to bring to Wilmington NC where they will do their mission work this summer. Just leave in the basket and we will get them. Rite 13 will be selling soda and water for $1.00 a bottle at the Apple Harvest Festival in September. There are many sales throughout the summer. Please drop it off in Room #1 at the bottom of the stairs. Stepping Stones (youth group for Grades 4-6) are beginning to plan their Thanksgiving Boxes for Southington Social Services. We want to include everyone. We will be talking with the Sr. Choir and with Adult Formation soon and have left boxes with instructions in each classroom. If you are not a member of one of these groups, here is a list of items for you to consider. Many families with children can make ends meet week to week but it is the holidays that are so difficult. The group believes everyone should enjoy pie on Thanksgiving Day. She suggests bringing in the premade non perishable kind or the box mix. Also a can of Pumpkin Pie mix that includes the spices and everything ready to pour into the crust. Any kind of canned pie filling works. Other items we would like to collect during October: 5 lb bags of Flour, 1 lb boxes of sugar, 5 lb bags of sugar, canned nuts or peanuts, hard candy, salt and pepper, hot chocolate, tea, cake mixes and frosting, muffin mixes, cornbread mixes and boxes of pop tarts, Also, $10.00 gift certificates for milk, eggs, fresh fruit (to be placed in an envelope and put into the collection plate OR placed in the mail box in the office for Nancy Sewell.) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
